About the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach

The side-by-side ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach form the busiest container port complex in the United States, and both handle vehicle cargo. They are the main West Coast gateway for cars going to Asia, Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific Islands. The Port of Hueneme in Ventura County is another major vehicle port in Southern California.

Most personal and exported cars leaving Southern California are loaded into containers at forwarder warehouses around Los Angeles, Long Beach, Carson, Compton and the Inland Empire, while roll-on/roll-off vehicles go to the terminal named in the booking. Receiving hours and appointment rules vary, so we follow your forwarder’s instructions exactly.

Common destinations: Japan, South Korea, China, the Philippines, Southeast Asia, Australia, New Zealand, the Pacific Islands and the Middle East.

Areas we pick up from most often for this port: California, Arizona, Nevada, Utah, Oregon and the Southwest. See also Los Angeles car shipping, California car shipping, Moving to California with a car.

How door-to-port delivery works

  1. Book the ocean shipment with an FMC-licensed freight forwarder, NVOCC or ocean carrier, and get the delivery instructions.
  2. Send us the delivery address, booking or dock receipt number, receiving hours and cutoff date.
  3. We assign a licensed carrier whose schedule fits your cutoff. For marine terminals, we look for drivers who can access the terminal, including a TWIC card where it is required.
  4. The driver inspects the car with you at pickup and you both sign the bill of lading.
  5. The car is delivered to the terminal or warehouse, and you or your forwarder receive the delivery receipt.
  6. Your forwarder files the export information with CBP at least 72 hours before export and loads the car.
