Buyers around the world purchase cars at U.S. auctions such as Copart, IAA (Insurance Auto Auctions), Manheim and ADESA, then ship them overseas. The hardest part is often the first step: getting the car out of the auction yard before storage fees start and delivering it to the export port or the freight forwarder on time. NIKI Auto Transport handles that step. We pick up running and non-running vehicles at auction locations across the continental United States and deliver them to any U.S. port or forwarder warehouse.

Send us the lot number, auction location and port or warehouse address on our car shipping quote page, or call (818) 732-1805.

Why auction buyers need a fast pickup

Auctions usually expect payment within a few business days of the sale and start charging daily storage soon after. Many international buyers are paying a forwarder, waiting for the title and arranging a container at the same time, so delays add up fast. A carrier that is booked the day you win the bid keeps storage fees low and gets your car to the port while your container or sailing is still open.

How auction-to-port shipping works

  1. Win the bid and pay the auction. Keep your buyer number, lot number, stock number and the yard address.
  2. Get your gate pass or release. The auction usually issues it once payment clears.
  3. Book transport with NIKI. Tell us whether the car runs, its condition (keys, flat tires, missing wheels, flood or fire damage) and the delivery address.
  4. We assign a carrier with the right equipment, including a winch for non-running cars.
  5. Pickup at the yard: the driver checks the vehicle against the lot and records its condition.
  6. Delivery to the port or warehouse: your forwarder receives the car and loads it into a container or onto a RoRo ship once the title and export filing are ready.

2026 estimates for a standard sedan on an open carrier. Larger vehicles, heavy damage, missing wheels and remote yards cost more. Auction fees, storage, ocean freight and export filing are separate.

The title: the most common export delay

U.S. Customs and Border Protection requires the original title or other proof of ownership, such as a salvage certificate, for a used vehicle to be exported. Export information must also be filed electronically at least 72 hours before the vehicle leaves. Auction titles can take days or weeks to arrive, and some states issue salvage, junk or non-repairable documents that may limit where the car can go.

Auction car export shipping FAQ

Can you pick up a car from Copart or IAA and take it to the port?

Yes. We pick up running and non-running vehicles at Copart, IAA and dealer auction yards across the continental U.S. and deliver them to export ports or forwarder warehouses.

How fast can you pick up an auction car?

Often within a few days of booking, depending on the location and the carrier’s route. Book as soon as you win to limit storage fees.

Can you ship a non-running salvage car to the port?

Yes. Tell us the condition so we send a carrier with a winch. Heavily damaged vehicles may need special equipment and cost more.

Can my car be exported before the title arrives?

No. CBP requires the original title or other proof of ownership, and export information must be filed at least 72 hours before export. The car can be delivered to the warehouse while you wait, but it cannot sail without the title.

Does NIKI book the ocean freight?

No. NIKI arranges the U.S. truck transport. The ocean shipment is booked with an FMC-licensed freight forwarder, NVOCC or ocean carrier.
